Jr. Pan Am Assistant Coach Selection Information

 Criteria for Selection of Junior Pan Am Assistant Coaches

1. Minimum USAB Level I (in future it will be level II)
2. Background check by USAB
3. Commitment to USAB coaching program and future coaching
4. Communication ability with all athletes
5. Coaching History/Experience
6. Green Card or Citizen (preferred - see 3)
7. Gender Balance of Coaching team
8. Head Coaches Input ( In future also National Coach input)
9. Funding
10. Team Person
11. Able to work in difficult environments
12. Able to focus on all athletes on the US team, not just those with whom they have a prior relationship

 

Expectations of Assistant Coaches

1.  Understand and adapt to the needs of participants.
2. Be able to plan sessions suited to participants needs.
3. Be able to evaluate players technically and tactically.
4. Be able to work with players to set appropriate goals.
5. Be able to carry out the necessary health and safety checks for venues and players.
6. Demonstrate use of a variety of communication techniques.
7. Prepare candidates appropriately for competitions/matches.
8. Understand your roles and responsibilities as a coach.
9. Demonstrate that you understand key elements relating to the protection of children and vulnerable adults, are able to deal with injuries should they occur and coach in an equitable manner.
10. Be able to manage players effectively.
11. Understand the factors that affect performance (physical and psychological). 

 

Selection Process for Assistant Coaches for Junior Pan Ams

1. Entry Deadline of May 20, 2009
2. All applicants will be reviewed by selection committee of Fred Coleman, Andy Chong(Lead Coach), Amy Ng (Juniors Committee), Widya Susanto (Juniors Committee), Andy Gouw (Coaches Rep BOD)
3. Applicants will be reviewed by the posted selection criteria.
4. Applicants will be notified by May 29, 2009
